Look Mom…I Can Fly!
Sunday, July 19th, 2009
I took some great shots of the boys swimming in the pool today including this one of Joshua:

So I decided to have a little fun with this shot (click the thumbnails to enlarge):
A Couple of Joshua-isms
Thursday, July 16th, 2009
The boys were painting their pinewood derby cars for this weekend’s upcoming race. They were at the kitchen table and I heard Jen ask “Joshua, are you being careful not to get paint on you”. Joshua replied, “I’m being careful but the paint isn’t being careful about getting on me.”
And then tonight, Jen was trying to alleviate his concerns about the logistics of our upcoming vacation. He was concerned about how we would get around once we got off the plane if we had left our car at the airport. She was able to alleviate some of his concerns when she explained that when we got off the plane, we would be renting a car. He said “I hope we get a limo. I really like limos”.
Father’s Day
Monday, June 22nd, 2009
My boys were at their grandmom and granddad’s for Father’s Day. When they returned home today, they gave me a couple of hand drawn cards and a big bag of cookies with a note that said Happy Father’s Day! I waited until after lunch to sample the cookies. In the mid-afternoon, I had to head out on some errands and I went back to the cookie bag to grab one for the road (my third).
Alex was sitting at the kitchen table working on something undoubtedly important. His back was to me. Without lifting his head, he said “Boy, you really do like those cookies.”
“Thanks”, I said wryly.
Pause.
“You’re Welcome”.
Joshua stories from this week
Thursday, June 18th, 2009
Joshua makes me laugh every day. He is very funny without intending to be, as are many 5 year olds, I am sure. Still, the things he comes up with and they way he says them strikes me as really funny. I need to make a more consistent effort to journal these little tidbits but here are a few quick stories from this week:
Let’s make a deal
Alex and Joshua were playing in the next room over. I wasn’t really paying attention but basically Alex was trying to con his brother into trading him something. He tried to convince Joshua that they agreed to a swap.
Alex: This is mine now and that is yours. We made a deal.
Joshua: What deal? I didn’t shake on anything.
At the movies
Monday we took the boys for a fun day which included seeing the movie Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. There is a scene in the movie where Darth Vader and Oscar the Grouch appear together. Joshua is a Star Wars fan, mostly because of the Lego Star Wars video game. When the two appeared I heard him start mumbling.
Joshua: That’s Darth Vader. The black one. The black one is Darth Vader.
Me: Who is the green one.
Joshua: (shrugs) I dunno.
Theater
Today our family went to Sight and Sound in Lancaster, PA to see the play “In the beginning”. On the way, Joshua was riding with my brother, sister-in-law, and his cousins. The theater uses live animals in many of the productions, including this one. In an attempt to get the children excited about the play, Abby (my sister-in-law), told them about how they were going to get to see many animals in the theater. At this, Joshua replied, “We know that there are really people inside them.”
